THE CORRIDOR GALLERY – GANGURINN GALLERÍ
The Corridor (Gangurinn in Icelandic) is a home art space/art gallery founded by Helgi Fridjonsson in 1980 with the purpose of introducing foreign contemporary art, scarcely seen in Iceland at that time, into the Icelandic art scene. The Corridor has hosted continuous exhibitions from its first opening, presenting the works of many prominent artists from all over the world.
EXHIBITIONS
"Forty Years of the Corridor" in the National Gallery of Iceland (February 2nd - June 4th 2023)
In 2020 the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Corridor was marked with an exhibition with artists, whose art had been exhibited at the Corridor over the years. The exhibition consists of 117 artworks by 84 artists from 22 countries. The exhibition as a whole was donated to the National Gallery of Iceland by The Corridor’s founder Helgi Þorgils Friðjónsson and his wife Rakel Halldórsdóttir and is now on display in the museum. The 117 artworks are now a part of the museum’s permanent collection representing the history of The Corridor for the past 40 years and its influence on the Icelandic visual arts scene.
